When you commenced at QUT, you became a member of a learning community in which teachers and students, along with student support and services staff, work together to create a quality learning environment. QUT also works hard to deliver you a positive student experience. Part of working together is giving constructive feedback about your initial experiences of your courses, of your engagement with other students and of QUT, through the First Year Experience Survey (FYES).
Feedback that other students have given in the past about key issues for new students has made a difference to how QUT approaches your first year experience.
Similarly, the feedback given about your transition to QUT and your first year experience helps us continue to improve.
When do you complete the survey?
The First Year Experience Survey (commonly called FYES) was first administered in 2007. The survey will again be administered in 2010.Quick and easy
The FYES is different to other surveys you may have done. It allows you to give feedback about your whole experience of studying and life at university as a first year student. The FYES replaces previous first year student surveys in an online form and only takes about 10 minutes to complete. First year students helped design the questions so that the survey would address the things most important to commencing students and to ensure that it would be quick and easy to use.
How and when
When the FYES is open you will be invited to complete it online through QUT Virtual at https://qutvirtual.qut.edu.au.
In the Messages box under the Welcome Tab a First Year Experience Survey message will appear. Click on the link 'Complete the survey'.

The FYES was open to all QUT undergraduate first year students from Weeks 3 to 5 of Semester 2, 2007. The next First Year Experience Survey will be released in 2010.

Those who completed their First Year Experience Survey could go into the draw to win one of three Myer Gift Cards (each valued at $200) or four iPod Shuffles. Privacy Statement
All feedback given is confidential. No teacher or faculty staff, nor any student or support staff, will receive any student names or student identifying information with the survey results when they are collated and released. The FYES survey results are solely for the purposes of quality review so that we may act on your feedback to improve the student experience at the whole of course and institution level.
